Despite threats of a fuel crisis and rising prices Sandstone experienced large visitor numbers for its 2026 Easter Cosmos Festival. Running from Thursday April 2^nd to Sunday April 5^th visitors enjoyed steam train rides, military vehicle rides and demonstrations plus a vast array of vintage machinery parades. Sandstone Oxen and Donkeys Also played their part and the whole event was surrounded by vast fields of Cosmos, one of the best displays for many years. Classic Collection brought an amazing array of vintage aircraft, such as Tiger Moths and Chipmunks, and gave many visitors a very different experience of flight from jet power to Cape Town!

Numerous food and drink vendors kept the visitors replenished with many varieties for all tastes.

Please note that Helicopters will not be permitted to land at Sandstone Airport during this event. This is to avoid causing stress for our cattle herd. Alternative landing arrangements can be made with Ficksburg Sentraoes Airport which is close to Sandstone. Full details can be found on their website: https://acukwik.com/Airport-Info/FAFB

Fixed wing aircraft intending to land must contact our Event Coordinator, Mariette Palmer, on 064 752 3852. Contact should be made at least a week in advance of the event.

It is always a joy for us and our staff when we have visitors who really appreciate what we do in the heritage world at Sandstone.

Sandstone has been the subject of many film and video productions over the years.   Recently we were visited by Rogerio de Oliveira, a feature film producer from Cape Town. Rogerio is looking at Sandstone as one of the locations for a forthcoming production.
